The perfect background for any period documentary, film or television production with pre-constructed buildings ready to be used in your productions.
On site parking, toilets and power, giving a production everything they need to plug in and shoot.
There are a large array of members for hire as actors/extras for productions as well as historical advisors.
The site is also commonly used for LARP events. A prebuilt set for any game set up.
Wychurst is accessed via a private, single track road. The road is quite uneven in places and care should be taken. Nearby, within easy walking distance, is a scout hall which (if free) can be used as a base camp for production crew, make up, catering, etc. It has a fully equipped kitchen and washrooms with showers.
There is a car park on site enough for several cars and vans. The scout hall also has a car park.
Regia Anglorum has a membership of several hundred, each with their own equipment accurate for the early medieval period. From king to peasant, from viking to monk, you will be able to find the perfect individuals for your backdrop.
Amongst the membership are several very knowledgeable people. Archaeologists, museum curators, skilled artisans and history lecturers whose area of expertise is extrodinary. If you have a question about the era you are portraying, or would like a historical advisor on site to ensure authenticity, we can provide.
Wychurst itself is completely off-grid. There is an electricity supply from a solar array and a bank of batteries. This is enough to charge mobile phones and provide lighting. There is a small fridge which can be used in the summer months.
Anything more substantial will need a generator, we usually have a diesel generator on site.
Wychurst is not connected to the mains water or sewerage network. Water is provided by an on-site bore hole, pumped out and stored in a tank for flushing lavatories and washing hands. Four lavatories are available, including one designed for people with limited mobility. These cubicles are large enough to act as changing rooms if needed, with mirrors and hooks for clothes.
Waste water is held in a cesspit and must be pumped out. Lavatories will be out of action if the cesspit fills up.
There is an external tap and the water is UV filtered.
The site is just as accessible in winter as in summer. In fact the likelihood of the scout hall being available might make it a better time to use the site.
The lack of sun over the shorter months can impact the basic facilities. But our generator can charge the batteries so all facilities will be available.
Here are a small selection of the film and television productions that have used Wychurst as a base over the years.
